IN RESPONSE TO THE L.A.TIMES ARTICLE
As much as we appreciate the stories written by Newsweek and the Los Angeles Times on our first GodMen event, we believe that some clarity should be established.
We're creating a Christian, men's only event where men are treated like men, with respect, no holds barred, and hit between the eyes. Men are far more likely to make powerful changes in their lives when they come into a setting where there's absolute freedom in exploring the difficulties we all face on our spiritual journey.
Because of the graphic nature of the topics that accompany this spiritual journey, we decided that there would be no typical church language decorum, but that as long as it was contextual, any use of language to define a point would be accepted.
That being said, within the entire six hour program, there were two words uttered that would not typically be heard in a church, and both were in context.
The phrase in the Times article "one profanity at a time" was a play on words. Unfortunately it was also misleading, though we believe the majority of the story was fair and accurate.
We also used some tongue-in-cheek songs about men so we could sing along and laugh with each other. If you weren't there and all you did was read this one article, you might come away with an impression of the event that isn't accurate. The men that were there, including numerous pastors, saw lives radically changed in a way that church services or even other men's conferences aren't well equipped to do. We hope this clears up any misconceptions of gratuitous language/concepts that would make no sense if you were not there.
Please join our email list so you can find out when the next GodMen event is happening. We will be making that announcement in the coming weeks.
